Celebrated by chefs around the world, carbon steel skillets offer exceptional browning and searing capabilities, weighing a fraction of their cast iron counterparts. These skillets are more heat responsive than cast iron, enabling faster and more even heating, and they only get better with each use. As you use these remarkable skillets, they become darker, developing a natural patina layer that enhances their durability and nonstick properties, making them virtually indestructible.
Introducing BK Black Steel, the winner of the 2019 Red Dot Award for design. Crafted from hot-rolled black steel that is three times denser than aluminum, these skillets are even stronger and more durable than traditional grey carbon steel. With a thickness of 2mm, these skillets are designed to conduct heat incredibly well and last for generations.
BK Black Steel is highly resistant to corrosion, damage, and stains, thanks to a high-temperature black iron oxide layer. This cookware is safe for use with metal utensils and can withstand oven temperatures up to 600°F. The coated cast iron handles are securely attached with rivets and shaped for comfort.
BK has a rich history of innovation dating back to 1851, when coppersmith Hendrik Berk of Kampen, Holland, was commissioned to create milk churns, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils. Forty years later, Berk added a protective layer of enamel to his steel pans and tins, introducing the world to the first enameled steel Dutch oven. This laid the foundation for BK, which continues to bring high-quality and innovative engineering to their approach to cookware.
In 1951, BK's crowning achievement came when Queen Juliana awarded them the Royal predicate, a title reserved for organizations that hold a prominent position in their field. Since then, BK has been recognized as the Royal Founder of the Dutch oven, known throughout the world for its heritage of innovation.
BK Black Steel skillets come pre-seasoned with oil and feature a thin silicone wax coating that is much easier to remove than a thick layer of beeswax or grease. This means the pan is ready to use after a quick wash with soap. As you continue to use the pan, the natural nonstick patina layer will develop, making the pan even better and more nonstick over time.
The heat-responsive design of BK Black Steel skillets allows you to achieve the same great searing results as cast iron without the hassle. Whether you're searing, frying, or baking, these skillets are built to perform exceptionally well, while also being durable, corrosion-resistant, and easy to maintain.
